Friday 1th October 1999

From to Brownsover Arm (disused) arriving at 83:5 pm. The time taken was 35 minutes. 1.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 535 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 844 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a very bold kingfisher just before the Rugby Arm. Moored just past bridge 58 and went to Tesco's for some shopping. Had lunch on the boat.

Totals for this voyage are 537 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 847 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Passed a lot a Viking and Clifton boats heading back to base. Moored just before bridge 79. A cloudy day with a chilly wind this afternoon.

Saturday 2th October 1999

From Barby Wood Bridge No 78 to Braunston Junction arriving at 10:50 am. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 4.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.64 lock/miles per hour. Stopped on the water point next to Midland Chandlers. While we were filling with water (30 minutes) I went into Midland to get some Elsan Blue and some things to build a new hatch cover.

From Braunston Junction to Lower Shuckburgh Bridge No 104 arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 1 hour 25 minutes. 3.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.47 lock/miles per hour. Stopped for lunch between bridges 107 and 108. After lunch I did a 4882 hours service, changing the oil and air filters.

From Lower Shuckburgh Bridge No 104 to Napton Bottom Lock No 8 arriving at 4:10 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 0 minutes. 3.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.75 lock/miles per hour. Turned at the winding hole before the locks and reversed into an adjacent mooring space. Walked round the village in the evening but came back to the Folly for dinner (Steak & Kidney Pie 5.25, Chicken, Ham & Mustard Pie 6.75). A sunny day with some cloud and a chilly breeze.

Sunday 3th October 1999

From Napton Bottom Lock No 8 to Braunston Junction arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 7.25 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.19 lock/miles per hour. Saw two kingfishers together near Napton Junction. Stopped for 20 minutes alongside Stokie for Diesel (74.2 litres 14.84, 20p per litre) and chatted to him about his problems connecting his PC to his mobile phone modem. Then we went into the marina for a pumpout (5). Moored for lunch just after the marina, by the next bridge. A sunny morning, cloudy afternoon with some showers.Between Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 and Braunston Top Lock No 6: Nb. Spellbound leaving lock - 5th October 1999.

Monday 4th October 1999

From Braunston Junction to Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 arriving at 73:5 pm. The time taken was 15 minutes. 0.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 544 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 850 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Moved down to Braunston Boats toget the hull blacked. Went to the church then to Olde Plough for lunch (Steak & Kidney Pie 5.35, Gammon Steak 5.65).

Tuesday 5th October 1999

From Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 to Buckby Top Lock No 7 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 4 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.62 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 546 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 856 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Went to the Admiral Nelson for lunch (Steak Chassuer 9.95, Chicken in Stilton & Leek 8.95). We went back in the water after lunch and set off up the locks. Moored just before the lock. A sunny day.

Wednesday 6th October 1999

From Buckby Top Lock No 7 to Weedon Station Bridge No 24 arriving at 11:50 am. The time taken was 2 hours 45 minutes. 4.5 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 549 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 862 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the Buckby locks behind two other boats. Moored just before the bridge and went shopping in Lower Weedon, then we went to the Globe for lunch (Roast Beef and Poached Salmon in Lemon and Corriander sauce 5.95 each).

From Weedon Station Bridge No 24 to Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 arriving at 6:05 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 25 minutes. 9.25 miles and 13 locks, averaging 5.04 lock/miles per hour. Came down the locks and moored on the aqueduct. A sunny day.

Thursday 7th October 1999

From Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 to Northampton Lock No 1 arriving at 11:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 3.5 miles and 5 locks, averaging 4.64 lock/miles per hour. Came down the last locks on the Northampton Branch. At lock 16 two men were waiting to see the Flying Scotsman, which steamed across the bridge in front of us while we were in the lock. Moored just before the lock then did our shopping in Morrison's and had lunch on the boat.

From Northampton Lock No 1 to Cogenhoe Lock No 7 arriving at 5:20 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 5.87 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.56 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 558 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 886 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped to dump the rubish at Northamton, much to the anoyance of the angler on the mooring pontoon. Saw 2 Black Swans just after Billing. Moored just above the lock. A cloudy day with some showers at lunch time.

Friday 8th October 1999

From Cogenhoe Lock No 7 to Wellingborough Bridge arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 6.62 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.37 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 562 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 892 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Saw 2 kingfishers, one on the sign post below Whitemills Lock, and a dabchick. Moored by the park and went to the Dog & Duck for lunch (3 courses for 7.95). Filled with water before setting off.

From Wellingborough Bridge to Irthlingborough Lock No 17 arriving at 5:10 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 5.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 564 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 896 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Met the narrowboat Badger coming up through Ditchford Lock and saw another kingfisher after the lock. Moored on the visitor moorings before the lock. A cloudy day with some sunny intervals.

Saturday 9th October 1999

From Irthlingborough Lock No 17 to Islip Lock No 22 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 7.75 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.4 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 568 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 901 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher below Woodford Lock. Moored at the Middle Nene Sailing Club for lunch etc. A cloudy day with a few sunny intervals.

Sunday 10th October 1999

From Islip Lock No 22 to Ashton Lock No 28 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 10.62 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.99 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 572 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 907 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

A lot of boats on the move between Titchmarsh and here. The reach below Titchmarsh was down over a foot and a paddle was left up at Wadenhoe Lock. Stopped for lunch on the moorings next to the lock.

From Ashton Lock No 28 to Perio Lock No 30 arriving at 4:35 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.82 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 574 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 909 locks, averaging 1.76 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher below Aston Lock. Moored just before Fotheringhay Bridge (2) and went to the Falcon for dinner (Breast of Chicken 10.95, Breast of Duck 12.95, Raspberry Tart 4.75, Truffle Cake 5.75). A cloudy day with some sunny periods.

Monday 11th October 1999

From Perio Lock No 30 to Wansford Bridge arriving at 12:15 am. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 8.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 577 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 913 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Saw two kingfishers this morning. Moored outside the Haycock and had lunch there (Turkey, Ham & Mushroom Caserole 7.50 each).

From Wansford Bridge to Orton Lock No 37 arriving at 4:35 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 9 miles and 3 locks, averaging 4.11 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 580 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 916 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Met an Environment Agency weed cutter boat coming up through Water Newton lock and another narrowboat at Alwalton so there were two locks we didn't have to fill. Moored at the Boathouse. A mostly sunny day but a little cooler than of late.

Tuesday 12th October 1999

From Orton Lock No 37 to Peterborough Junction arriving at 10:00 am. The time taken was 40 minutes. 2.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 581 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 916 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Came down from the Boathouse and stopped on the facilities on the embankment for 50 minutes. Beryl went shopping at Asda while I did the pumpout and rubbish, then back to our home mooring in the sunshine.
