Thursday 1th September 2005

From to Wheelock Bottom Lock No 66 arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 3 hours 55 minutes. 6.37 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.67 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 472 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 680 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Yesterday we went shopping at Somerfield and had lunch at the Big Lock. There were 17 boats queuing for the locks when I came back from the Post Office so we stayed put. This morning we started off at 7.10 and came up the locks, stopping 10 minutes to fill with water at the juction. Spent 45 minutes getting a pumpout at Elton Moss (15 without blue). Had lunch at the Cheshire Cheese. Some light drizzle this morning but a mainly dry and sunny day.

Friday 2th September 2005

From Wheelock Bottom Lock No 66 to Church Lawton Bottom Lock No 48 arriving at 1:20 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 35 minutes. 4.87 miles and 18 locks, averaging 4.1 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 478 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 698 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Made good progress up the locks until we came to Lawson Treble where there was a queue of four boats. Moored above Halls Lock for lunch. A sunny day.

Saturday 3th September 2005

From Church Lawton Bottom Lock No 48 to Harding's Wood Junction arriving at 12:10 am. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 1.87 miles and 8 locks, averaging 4.74 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 480 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 706 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 10 minutes for water at Red Bull facilities. Were followed up the locks by Josephine and Hampshire. Stopped at Kidsgrove and went to Tesco's for lunch and shopping.

From Harding's Wood Junction to Tunstall Bridge arriving at 2:35 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 2.62 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 481 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 706 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

When we arrived at Harecastle Tunnel we were waved straight in. The previous boat was five minutes in front we were told but we caught up with them at the end of the tunnel. Moored by Westport Lake. A sunny day.

From Hemheath Bridge No 106 to Trentham Lock No 35 arriving at 2:45 pm. The time taken was 40 minutes. 0.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 485 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 712 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Came down to moor past Bridge 104. A sunny day.

Monday 5th September 2005

From Trentham Lock No 35 to Stone Bottom Lock No 27 arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 4.37 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.91 lock/miles per hour. Stopped for 20 minutes at Barlaston Bridge while Beryl went to the shops. Stopped 15 minutes between the Stone Locks for water. Moored below the bottom lock and went to the Star for lunch (Wensleydale Chicken 8.95 each).

From Stone Bottom Lock No 27 to Aston Lock No 26 arriving at 3:35 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 1.5 miles and 1 locks, averaging 1.88 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 489 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 721 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Moored between Ashton and Sandon locks just before bridge 88. A warm and mostly sunny day.

From Aston Lock No 26 to Great Haywood Junction arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 3 hours 30 minutes. 8.37 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 493 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 724 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 15 minutes at Anglo Welsh at the junction for a pumpout (12) then moved down towards the lock to moor. Had lunch at the Lock House Restaurant (17.30 for drinks, 2 courses and coffee).

From Great Haywood Junction to Rugeley Bridge No 66 arriving at 4:30 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.23 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 495 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 726 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Moored before the bridge. A misty start to the day gave way to warm sunny weather.

Wednesday 7th September 2005

From Rugeley Bridge No 66 to Keepers Lock No 16 arriving at 5:30 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 7.5 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 499 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 730 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Went shopping in Rugeley, including our weekly shop at Morrison's. Had lunch on the boat. There was a queue of three boats in front of us at Woodend Lock. Florian followed us down through the first lock. Moored just after the Junction Lock. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Thursday 8th September 2005

From Keepers Lock No 16 to Barton Turn Lock No 10 arriving at 12:35 am. The time taken was 2 hours 35 minutes. 5.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 502 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 736 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the first four locks behind the hotelboat Willow. Stopped 20 minutes for water at Arlewas. Moored outside Barton Turns Marina and after lunch went into the marina to the visitor moorings.

Friday 9th September 2005

From Barton Turn Lock No 10 to Branstone Lock No 8 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 2.87 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.65 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 503 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 738 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Branston Bridge and had lunch at the Bridge Inn, which had an all Italian menu (Pizza 6.50, Spag Bol 6.30, desserts 3.50).

From Branstone Lock No 8 to Willington Bridge No 23 arriving at 5:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 6.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.83 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 506 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 740 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher below Dallow Lane Lock. Stopped on the 48 hour moorings. A cloudy morning with some sunshine in the afternoon.

Saturday 10th September 2005

From Willington Bridge No 23 to Barrow Bridge No 16 arriving at 4:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 4.12 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 508 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 741 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

A wet day. We went to the Green Dragon for lunch then set off when the rain had easyed off. Moored a little way after the bridge.

Sunday 11th September 2005

From Barrow Bridge No 16 to Shardlow Lock No 2 arriving at 12:55 am. The time taken was 3 hours 20 minutes. 6.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 511 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 745 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher shortly after we set off. Stopped 35 minutes for water before Swarkeston Lock.Quite afew boats coming up through the locks as we went down. Moored after the lock and went to the Navigation for lunch (Roast Pork 6.90 each).

From Sawley Flood Lock No 1 to Normanton-on-Soar Wharf arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 55 minutes. 8.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.84 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 515 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 753 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

A fine morning to come down the Trent and up the Soar. Moored at the Plough for lunch (Steak & Kidney Pie 6.95, Trout 8.90) a pub we have never stopped at before. A hire boat from Sileby Mill that we had shared some locks with moored alongside us.

From Normanton-on-Soar Wharf to A60 Road Bridge, Loughborough arriving at 3:10 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 25 minutes. 3 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.53 lock/miles per hour. Moored just before Meadow Lane Bridge and went into town to collect the post and do some shopping at Sainsbury's.

From A60 Road Bridge, Loughborough to Pilling's Flood Lock No 52 arriving at 5:05 pm. The time taken was 30 minutes. 1.37 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.74 lock/miles per hour. Moved out of Loughborough to moor just before 34. A sunny day.

From Pilling's Flood Lock No 52 to Cossington Lock No 48 arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 6 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.67 lock/miles per hour. Stopped 30 minutes at Barrow on Stour to fill with water while Beryl went to the shops. Moored above the lock and went to the Red Lion at Rothley for lunch (Chicken Tika Masala and Fish and chips 7.95 for the two meals).

From Cossington Lock No 48 to West Bridge, Leicester arriving at 5:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 7.87 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 523 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 767 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a Little Gebe above Birstall Lock. Moored on the pontoons at Castle Park, we are the only boaters here tonight. Came through all the locks alone today. Another sunny day.

Thursday 15th September 2005

From West Bridge, Leicester to Kilby Bridge No 87 arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 20 minutes. 8.25 miles and 12 locks, averaging 4.67 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 527 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 779 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

After spending two nights moored at Leicester we set off and were soon folowed by Coriolis who we shared all the locks with today. Saw a kingfisher before Blue Bank Lock. Went to the Navigation for lunch (Tuna Steak 8.90 each, sweets 3.25). A mostly wet day.

Friday 16th September 2005

From Kilby Bridge No 87 to Newton Church Bridge No 80 arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 2.25 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.11 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 530 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 786 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Move across the canal to have a pumpout (6.30) and get water at the BW facilities, which took 35 minutes. Soon after we set off we were waved past a train of two mud hoppers, a work boat and a tug powering them all. We then got the advantage of several locks set for us by BW in readiness for their boats. We moored past bridge 79 and I walked to the village to post a letter. A sunny and breezy day.

From Newton Church Bridge No 80 to Market Harborough Basin and Wharves arriving at 2:25 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 0 minutes. 13 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.6 lock/miles per hour. Saw a kingfisher after Saddington Tunnel. Turned at the junction, had lunch on the move and stopped on the visitor moorings just before the basin. Went shopping in Market Harborough. A frost on the grass this morning followed by a sunny day.

Sunday 18th September 2005

From Market Harborough Basin and Wharves to Black Horse Bridge No 3 arriving at 11:20 am. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.61 lock/miles per hour. Turned in market Harborough Basin and stopped 20 minutes for water befor setting of back to Foxton. Moored just past the bridge and had a walk round the village before walking to the new pub at the bottom of the locks for lunch. A dry but cloudy day.

Monday 19th September 2005

From Black Horse Bridge No 3 to Foxton Top Lock No 8 arriving at 11:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 55 minutes. 0.75 miles and 10 locks, averaging 5.61 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 538 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 801 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher just after we set off. Had to wait about 40 minutes at the bottom of the locks before we could go up but made good progress up the locks. Stopped at the top and went down to the Foxton Locks Inn again for lunch (Mariner's Pie 7.95, Chilli Con Carne 8.95) then went round the museum and looked round the site of the inclined plane.

Friday 23rd September 2005

From Norton Junction to Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 arriving at 10:40 am. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 3.75 miles and 6 locks, averaging 5.32 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 549 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 814 locks, averaging 1.66 lock/miles per hour.

Met one boat as we entered Braunston Tunnel but had an otherwise fast and clear trip through. Share the locks with another boat and made good progress down the flight. Moored just past the first marina entrance next to Wigrams Turn. Had coffee with Fred and Joyce then went to the Admiral Nelson for lunch and to the village for shopping.

From Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 to Flecknoe Bridge No 102 arriving at 3:40 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 3 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Went into Braunston Marina for a pumpout (7.50) then came on to moored on the rings past the bridge. A dry start and end to the day but wet around lunch time.

Stopped 15 minutes at Wigrams Turn Marina for diesel (148 litres at 50p = 74). Saw the people from Adventuer who we had shared locks with at Easter 1998 in the marina.Stopped 30 minutes for water at Braunston Stop House. Moored at Braunston Boats. A mostly sunny day with a few showers.

Thursday 29th September 2005

From Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 to Whilton Bottom Lock No 13 arriving at 2:15 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 0 minutes. 5.25 miles and 13 locks, averaging 4.56 lock/miles per hour. After three days at Braunston getting the boat blacked, anodes replaced and a new tiller bearing we set off up the locks. Stopped 20 minutes for water at Buckby top then went down the locks, sharing all butthe first with Wild Rose. Stopped for a late lunch opposite Whilton Marina.

From Whilton Bottom Lock No 13 to Wright's Lane Bridge No 45 arriving at 6:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 9.75 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.08 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 562 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 827 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped just before the bridge. Quite a few boats moored around here. A dry day with some sunny spells, especially this morning.

Stopped for 25 minutes at Gayton Marina for a pumpout (12) then came down the Rothersthorpe locks. Saw a kingfisher just below Rothersthorpe bottom lock. Stopped just after the bridge and went to Morrison's for lunch and shopping.

From South Bridge, Northampton to Cogenhoe Lock No 7 arriving at 6:45 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 6.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.83 lock/miles per hour. Moored just before the lock. A lot of the locks now have the new "Windsor" mooring posts. A warm day with some showers.
