Saturday 2th September 2006

From to Langford Lane Bridge No 224 arriving at 2:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 40 minutes. 7.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.61 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 113 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 184 locks, averaging 2.5 lock/miles per hour.

After spending the whole of Friday shopping in Oxford we set off through Osney Lock and into the canal via Isis lock. Stopped 20 minutes for water before we got to Dukes Cut Junction. Stopped for a late lunch at the Jolly Boatman. A wet start to the day but the rain stopped soon after we set off leaving us with a cloudy and windy day.

Sunday 3th September 2006

From Langford Lane Bridge No 224 to Heyford Wharf Bridge No 206 arriving at 2:40 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 8.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.46 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 117 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 189 locks, averaging 2.46 lock/miles per hour.

A cloudy and windy start to the day but more sun as the day progressed. Followed Joker through the last two locks. We moored on the piling some way after the wharf and managed to get to the Bell at five to three,just before the last food order.

Monday 4th September 2006

From Heyford Wharf Bridge No 206 to Aynho Bridge No 190 arriving at 2:10 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 6 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 121 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 192 locks, averaging 2.41 lock/miles per hour.

Followed Wychwood up through the locks. Saw a kingfisher before Somerton Deep Lock. There was a queue of five boats at Somerton and it took as an hour to get through. Saw Treble Joy with its new owners. Moored opposite Aynho wharf. We were too late for lunch at the Great Western so we booked for dinner and had a snack at the wharf. A mostly sunny day.

Tuesday 5th September 2006

From Aynho Bridge No 190 to Grimsbury Wharf arriving at 5:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 50 minutes. 7.62 miles and 5 locks, averaging 2.61 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 126 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 197 locks, averaging 2.35 lock/miles per hour.

Still lots of boats on the move. There was a low pound between Kings Sutton and Grants locks which slowed our progress. We stopped for Almost 2 hours to go to Morrison's for lunch and shopping. Stopped below Banbury Lock for water (15 minutes) then joined the lock queue. All the town moorings were full so we were nearly to Tesco's by the time we moored just past the Long term moorings. A day of sunshine and cloud.

Wednesday 6th September 2006

From Grimsbury Wharf to Cropredy Lock No 25 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 3.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.58 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 129 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 201 locks, averaging 2.33 lock/miles per hour.

Collected the post and bought a new watch in Banbury before setting off. Man good progress until we got to Cropredy Lock where we found we were in a queue of five boats. This backlog was caused by work being done at the lock to unblock the bypass weir culvert. We had lunch at the Red Lion. A mostly hot and sunny day.

Thursday 7th September 2006

From Cropredy Lock No 25 to Fenny Compton Wharf arriving at 2:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 6.25 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.42 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 133 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 209 locks, averaging 2.32 lock/miles per hour.

Jade arrived and moored behind us as I was getting ready to leave Cropredy this morning. Set off up the locks behind the hotel boats Alnwick and Morpeth - they stopped before the Claydon flight and we carried on. Stopped at Fenny Marina for 20 minutes for a pumpout (12.50). Moored just before the Wharf pub, where we had dinner. A mostly sunny day.

Friday 8th September 2006

From Fenny Compton Wharf to Napton Bottom Lock No 8 arriving at 2:35 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 45 minutes. 9.25 miles and 9 locks, averaging 2.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 140 hours 5 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 218 locks, averaging 2.27 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 15 minutes at Fenny Wharf. A good early morning cruise along the summit level but a lot more queing for locks today. A cool start to the day to a mostly sunny day.

From Napton Bottom Lock No 8 to Braunston Junction arriving at 10:45 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 7.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.72 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 142 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 218 locks, averaging 2.23 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher by bridge 102 where we also met Fred and Joyce coming the opposite way. Stopped for a few minutes for a chat. Moored by the bridge up to the village and went shopping at the Spar. Sunday 10th September 2006

From Braunston Junction to Weedon Station Bridge No 24 arriving at 1:35 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 30 minutes. 9.25 miles and 13 locks, averaging 4.05 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 148 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 231 locks, averaging 2.23 lock/miles per hour.

Set off up the locks by ourselves but were joined by Rendezvous in the fourth lock. Stopped 15 minutes for water at Buckby top lock then went down the Buckby locks with Henry from Wilton Marina. Moored past the boatyard and went into the village for lunch but neither of the pubs had food.

From Weedon Station Bridge No 24 to Bugbrooke Bridge No 36 arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 4.12 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.09 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 149 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 231 locks, averaging 2.21 lock/miles per hour.

Had some lunch on the move and came down to moor between the bridge and the winding hole. Had dinner at the Five Bells - very good. A warm sunny day.

Monday 11th September 2006

From Bugbrooke Bridge No 36 to Gayton Junction arriving at 10:00 am. The time taken was 1 hour 10 minutes. 3.5 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 150 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 231 locks, averaging 2.2 lock/miles per hour.

Came down from Bugbrooke to the junction where we stopped for water. This took an hour as we had to wait for someone who was filling a large empty tank.

From Gayton Junction to Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 arriving at 2:35 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 1.62 miles and 13 locks, averaging 5.16 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 153 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 244 locks, averaging 2.24 lock/miles per hour.

Spent 45 minutes at Gayton Marina waiting for hire boats to clear the diesel pump then filling up. (98.2 litres @ 59p = 57.90). Came down the locks behind another boat. A couple of the pounds were low and BW came out to run more water down. Moored on the aqueduct below the lock. A warm sunny day.

Tuesday 12th September 2006

From Rothersthorpe Bottom Lock No 13 to South Bridge, Northampton arriving at 11:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 3.25 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.35 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 155 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 248 locks, averaging 2.23 lock/miles per hour.

Followed Bossy Boots down the locks and met the tug "Mouse", from UCCC at Braunston, coming up. Moored near Morrison's for shopping and lunch.

From South Bridge, Northampton to Cogenhoe Lock No 7 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 6.12 miles and 6 locks, averaging 4.04 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 158 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 254 locks, averaging 2.23 lock/miles per hour.

A good run down to Cogenhoe. Met with the Crusader trip boat and a pair of working narrow boats coming up through Rush Mills Lock. A warm day with a lot of cloud.

Wednesday 13th September 2006

From Cogenhoe Lock No 7 to Irthlingborough Bridge arriving at 3:00 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 45 minutes. 11.87 miles and 10 locks, averaging 3.8 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 164 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 264 locks, averaging 2.21 lock/miles per hour.

Came through all the locks to Wellingborough by ourselves but at Wellingborough Lower Lock we met up with Jim and Judith on Inyanga and shared the last three locks with them. Moored at Nene Park and had a pumpout and filled with water. Seasons Bistro was closed so we walked into the village and had dinner at Tandoori Nights.Some dark clouds this morning but increasing sunshine through the day.

Thursday 14th September 2006

From Irthlingborough Bridge to Wadenhoe Lock No 24 arriving at 1:55 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 55 minutes. 13 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.07 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 169 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 271 locks, averaging 2.19 lock/miles per hour.

Saw kingfishers below Irthlingborough, Lower Ringstead and Titchmarsh locks. The EA have at last put a non-slip surface on to Islip Lock landing stage and on several of the wooden edges on other lock landings. Moored at the Kings Head too late for lunch but we had dinner there. A dry day with sunshine and cloud.

Friday 15th September 2006

From Wadenhoe Lock No 24 to Perio Lock No 30 arriving at 1:15 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 0 minutes. 9.75 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.19 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 173 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 278 locks, averaging 2.18 lock/miles per hour.

An EA man at Wadenhoe Lock worked the guillotine gate for us and we met a cruiser coming out of Lilford LOck as we arrived. Met narrowboat Barron at Lower Barnwell and paired up with them to Fotheringhay. Saw a kingfisher before Oundle bridges. Went to the Falcon for lunch. A dry day with sunshine and cloud.

Saturday 16th September 2006

From Perio Lock No 30 to Peterborough Bridge arriving at 2:45 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 30 minutes. 19.75 miles and 7 locks, averaging 4.86 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 178 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 285 locks, averaging 2.15 lock/miles per hour.

Came down the river with Jim and Marilyn on Barron. Had lunch on the move and moored by the Boathouse and dinner there in the evening - an improved menu this year. A cloudy morning with increasing sunshine in the afternoon.

Came down to the embankment for pumpout and shopping. Saw Jim and Marilyn from Barron again. Good weather for our return home.
