Monday 15th October 2007

From to Peterborough Bridge arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 30 minutes. 0 miles and 0 locks, averaging 0 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 77 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 37 locks, averaging 1.77 lock/miles per hour.

After moving to Birmingham on the 12th we returned by train from Birmingham to pick up Lorna-Ann from Mike and Jenny's mooring. We then went across to embankment to fill with waterand to do shopping at Asda.

From Peterborough Bridge to Orton Lock No 37 arriving at 6:50 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 20 minutes. 2 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 78 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 38 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Cruised up to the Boathouse intending to stop for the night but there was nowhere to moor so we went on to Ferry Meadows. A cloudy but dry day.

Tuesday 16th October 2007

From Orton Lock No 37 to Wansford Bridge arriving at 11:00 am. The time taken was 2 hours 40 minutes. 11 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.88 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 81 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 40 locks, averaging 1.72 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a kingfisher some way before Alwalton Lock. Stopped on the Haycock moorings for half an hour and did some shopping in the village. House Martin came past us just before we left.

From Wansford Bridge to Warmington Lock No 31 arriving at 3:05 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 15.25 miles and 6 locks, averaging 5.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 84 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 46 locks, averaging 1.72 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped above the bridge at Fotherighay and went to the Falcon for dinner. A mostly sunny day.

Sunday 21st October 2007

From Warmington Lock No 31 to Upper Barnwell Lock No 26 arriving at 2:05 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 50 minutes. 8.75 miles and 4 locks, averaging 4.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 87 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 50 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

After one night of rain we were delayed for five days at Fotheringhay due to strong stream warnings. During this time we had sunny days and filled in our time by walking to Warmington Lock, going by taxi into Oundle to do our shopping and eating at the Falcon every day. We finally got away at 11.15 and cruised to Oundle Marina where we stopped for water and diesel (166.3 litres @ 59p = 99.27).

From Upper Barnwell Lock No 26 to Wadenhoe Lock No 24 arriving at 4:40 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 3.5 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.71 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 89 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 53 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

Shared the locks to Wadenhoe with Cloud from the Middle Nene Cruising Club. Moored at the King's Head but they were not doing any food so we ate on the boat.

Monday 22nd October 2007

From Wadenhoe Lock No 24 to Islip Lock No 22 arriving at 10:20 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 4.75 miles and 2 locks, averaging 4.05 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 91 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 55 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

When we got to Islip lock we could not open the door to the guilotine gate control panel. After several attempts we called the Environment Agency and an engineer came to fix the problem (caused by the contractors painting the box) and we were through the lock after an hours delay.

From Islip Lock No 22 to Wellingborough Bridge arriving at 5:25 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 45 minutes. 13.5 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.91 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 96 hours 55 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 64 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

We had lunch on the move and stopped for 20 minutes at Irthlingborough for a pump out. We then pushed on to Wellingborough were we went shopping at Tesco and had dinner at the nearby Beefeater. A dry but cloudy day.

Tuesday 23rd October 2007

From Wellingborough Bridge to South Bridge, Northampton arriving at 3:45 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 50 minutes. 12.75 miles and 13 locks, averaging 3.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 103 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 77 locks, averaging 1.71 lock/miles per hour.

Saw a Little Grebe near Upper Wellingborough Lock. We passed two narrowboats coming down the Nene as we went up. Had a very late lunch at Morrisons and did some shopping. A misty start to the day gave way to sunshine.

Wednesday 24th October 2007

From South Bridge, Northampton to Milton Road Bridge No 3 arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 4 hours 0 minutes. 4.37 miles and 17 locks, averaging 5.34 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 107 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 94 locks, averaging 1.8 lock/miles per hour.

Came off the Nene and up the Northampton Arm. Saw a knigfisher above lock 16. Got out the bike at the start of the thick to do the lock wheeling. Met one boat coming down worked by a man on his own. Moored opposite Alvechurch Boats for lunch.

From Milton Road Bridge No 3 to Weedon Station Bridge No 24 arriving at 5:25 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 8.12 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 111 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 94 locks, averaging 1.75 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped 25 minutes for water at Gayton Junction. Moored beyond the bridge and cleared some rubbish from the prop. Had dinner at the All England. A mostly cloudy day.

Thursday 25th October 2007

From Weedon Station Bridge No 24 to Braunston Junction arriving at 2:05 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 35 minutes. 9.25 miles and 13 locks, averaging 3.99 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 116 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 107 locks, averaging 1.78 lock/miles per hour.

Shared the Buckby 7 locks and the Braunston 6 with the Kate boat Harry. I used the bike for lock wheeling on the Buckby flight but not at Braunston as there were plenty of boats coming up the flight. Had a very slow trip throug the tunnel due to a slow boat ahead of us. We arrived too late for lunch at the Admiral Nelson so we had lunch on the boat.

Friday 26th October 2007

From Kilsby Road Bridge No 74 to Brownsover Arm (disused) arriving at 10:55 am. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 3.87 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 120 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 110 locks, averaging 1.74 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for 25 minutes at the bottom of the Hillmorton locks to fill with water. Went shopping at Tescos then went back there for lunch.

Oxford Canal (Northern Section) to Coventry Canal

From Brownsover Arm (disused) to Hawkesbury Junction arriving at 5:35 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 12.87 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.26 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 124 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 111 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

Cruised down to Hawkesbury and onto the Coventry Canal where we moored just past the junction. A cloudy but dry day.

Saturday 27th October 2007

From Hawkesbury Junction to Atherstone Lock No 5 arriving at 12:50 am. The time taken was 4 hours 30 minutes. 11.37 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.64 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 129 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 116 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour.

Set off from Hawsbury Junction at 8.20 and got down to the Kings Head where we moored for a good lunch.

From Atherstone Lock No 5 to Alvecote Bridge No 59 arriving at 5:10 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 6.37 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.91 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 132 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 122 locks, averaging 1.68 lock/miles per hour.

Got the bike out to do the rest of the locks. Moored by the pipe bridge between bridges 59 and 63. A mostly cloudy day.

Sunday 28th October 2007

From Alvecote Bridge No 59 to Huddlesford Junction arriving at 12:00 am. The time taken was 3 hours 50 minutes. 9.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.93 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 136 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 124 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Moored at Plough Bridge and went to the Plough for a very good Sunday Lunch. A wet morning.

From Huddlesford Junction to King's Bromley Bridge No 54 arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 25 minutes. 5.75 miles and 3 locks, averaging 2.56 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 139 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 127 locks, averaging 1.63 lock/miles per hour.

A sunny afternoon for our trip up to Fradley and up the Trent & Mersey Canal. Still a lot of boats on the move as there has been ever since we left Gayton. We moored near bridge 55 beyond King's Bromley.

From King's Bromley Bridge No 54 to Great Haywood Junction arriving at 12:25 am. The time taken was 4 hours 15 minutes. 10.5 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.94 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 143 hours 50 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 129 locks, averaging 1.59 lock/miles per hour.

Concluded the final leg of our 2007 voyage by travelling to the new Great Haywood Marina where we will now keep our boat. Went by taxi to Stafford then train to Birmingham to collect the car to bring back Beryl and our luggage.
