From Aynho Bridge No 190 to King's Sutton Lock No 31 arriving at 6:40 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 3.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.15 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 1 hour 40 minutes. total cruising time, 3.25 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.15 lock/miles per hour.

Saturday 25th June 1994

From King's Sutton Lock No 31 to Banbury Lock No 29 arriving at 10:30 am. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 3.62 miles and 2 locks, averaging 2.7 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 3 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 6.87 miles and 4 locks, averaging 2.9 lock/miles per hour.

Moored just below Albion Bridge (No 166) to do some shopping and to wait for Jack Graham to deliver the key for the boat's front door which had not been put aboard we we got the boat. We left Banbury at about 1445.

From Banbury Lock No 29 to Broadmoor Lock No 24 arriving at 7:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 5.25 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.15 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 7 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 12.12 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.02 lock/miles per hour.

An afternoon of sunshine and clouds. After buying groceries, two pillows and a vacuum cleaner at Banbury we cruised on, stopping at Cropredy to empty the rubbish and fill up with water, this proved something of a disaster as the hose supplied with the boat seems to have left us with some nasty tasting drinking water. The boat has received a lot of complmentary comments today.

Sunday 26th June 1994

From Broadmoor Lock No 24 to Fenny Compton Wharf arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 4 hours 0 minutes. 5.5 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.38 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 11 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 17.62 miles and 17 locks, averaging 3.15 lock/miles per hour.

We stopped briefly at Cowroast Marina but their shop was closed so we went on to the George & Dagon pub where we had lunch, bought some things at their shop and filled the kettle and a suacepan with drinking water.

From Fenny Compton Wharf to Napton Bridge No 111 arriving at 7:05 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 0 minutes. 10.5 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.9 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 16 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 28.12 miles and 26 locks, averaging 3.38 lock/miles per hour.

We moored just after the Napton Bridge Inn. We tried to moor at the end of a line of boats but we went aground so I reversed back past the last boat to where there was a space just big enough for us. The wind was blowing from the bank but luckly we got help mooring.

Monday 27th June 1994

From Napton Bridge No 111 to Braunston Junction arriving at 10:20 am. The time taken was 2 hours 10 minutes. 6 miles and 0 locks, averaging 2.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 18 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 34.12 miles and 26 locks, averaging 3.31 lock/miles per hour.

Sunny with some cloud about. Shelia phoned to say I could have a lift to Rugby to get the cheque for the final payment on the boat, their man was at the Midland Chandelry at Braunston.

From Braunston Junction to Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 10 minutes. 0.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 10.5 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 18 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 34.87 miles and 27 locks, averaging 3.37 lock/miles per hour.

Set off after lunch and shared the Braunston Locks with 2 men on "Lady Lovelace" of Oxford. They confirmed they were into computing. Picked up our anchor, chain and rope from the chandelry.

From Braunston Bottom Lock No 1 to Watford Bottom Lock No 1 arriving at 4:30 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 5.87 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.96 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 21 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 40.75 miles and 33 locks, averaging 3.46 lock/miles per hour.

Beryl tried to empty the bottom lock with the top gate open, and considerably lowered the level of the pound before I noticed.

From Watford Bottom Lock No 1 to Crick Wharf Bridge No 12 arriving at 6:50 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 20 minutes. 2.75 miles and 6 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 23 hours 40 minutes. total cruising time, 43.5 miles and 39 locks, averaging 3.49 lock/miles per hour.

Stoped for night, visited the Red Lion and sorted out the problems with the washer/drier (watertaps not both on). We finished the wash cycle using the Rediline and did the drying using the Seapower with the engine runnng onthe mooring.

Tuesday 28th June 1994

From Crick Wharf Bridge No 12 to Foxton Top Lock No 8 arriving at 5:35 pm. The time taken was 7 hours 5 minutes. 18 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.25 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 30 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 61.5 miles and 44 locks, averaging 3.43 lock/miles per hour.

After some shopping in Crick we left the mooring at 10.30 and cruised continuously all day as we could not find a suitable mooring at lunch time, very shallow at edges.The original brick bridges on this section are a beautiful soft orange colour.

Wednesday 29th June 1994

From Foxton Top Lock No 8 to Pywells Lock No 21 arriving at 1:30 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 30 minutes. 5.75 miles and 9 locks, averaging 3.28 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 35 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 67.25 miles and 53 locks, averaging 3.41 lock/miles per hour.

After filling up with water we went through the 2 Foxton staircases, assisted by the lock keeper. Moored for lunch just below lock. Cut very narrow and shallow for the most part and the wind caused us some difficulties.

From Pywells Lock No 21 to Kilby Bridge No 87 arriving at 6:55 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 4.25 miles and 8 locks, averaging 3.27 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 39 hours 0 minutes. total cruising time, 71.5 miles and 61 locks, averaging 3.4 lock/miles per hour.

After lunch I spliced loops in both ends of the anchor rope, my first attempt at splicing, I hope they will hold. The day continues sunshine, cloud and wind. Stopped above the bridge, had dinner and then visited thee Navigation Inn, by the bridge.

Thursday 30th June 1994

From Kilby Bridge No 87 to West Bridge, Leicester arriving at 3:15 pm. The time taken was 6 hours 15 minutes. 8.25 miles and 12 locks, averaging 3.24 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 45 hours 15 minutes. total cruising time, 79.75 miles and 73 locks, averaging 3.38 lock/miles per hour.

After filling with wwater at Kilby Bridge we started off about 9am and cruised continuously, having lunch of cheese and cucumber sandwiches on the move. We moored at Leicester for some shopping, I got a new hat to replace the one blown into the canal on the Leicester summit.

From West Bridge, Leicester to Birstall Lock No 45 arriving at 7:00 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 5 minutes. 4 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.84 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 47 hours 20 minutes. total cruising time, 83.75 miles and 77 locks, averaging 3.4 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped overnight just above the lock. The centre ring rope attachment broke today and we also have reached our 50 hours engine time so we need an oil change. South Shore have arranged to meet us at Mountsorrel at 2pm tomorrow for the service and to decide what to do about the mooring ring.
