Saturday 1th October 1994

From to Ely, A142 Road bridge arriving at 10:50 am. The time taken was 1 hour 40 minutes. 5.87 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.52 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 456 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 677 locks, averaging 1.7 lock/miles per hour.

Moored at Ely to try to get a part for the water pump, but they don't stock Flojet pumps at Ely Boat Chandlers. After lunch we went into town and then to the station to see Angela off back to Huddersfield. Tesco's is right next to the station so we got our shopping there. A rainy day.

Sunday 2th October 1994

From Ely, A142 Road bridge to Clayhythe Bridge arriving at 12:30 am. The time taken was 3 hours 0 minutes. 11.25 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 459 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 677 locks, averaging 1.69 lock/miles per hour.

After filling up with water at Ely we cruised up tthe Ouse and on to the Cam. Stopped for lunch just above the bridge.

Moored for the night. The day started sunny but clouded over in the afternoon and rained just before we moored.

Monday 3th October 1994

After shopping in Cambridge we went on in the rain to moor above the bridge again. Saw a lot of rowing teams practising.

Continued in the rain and stopped for the night about half a mile after Pope's Corner. Shifted the balast at lunch time as we were leaning to port.

Stopped for the night at Hartford Marina. A cold sunny day, a bit warmer in the aftternoon. Very good scenery improving as we went up river.

Wednesday 5th October 1994

After pump-out, desiel and water at Hartford Marina we went to Huttingdon for shopping and moored just by the bridge.

From Huntingdon to Tempsford Bridge arriving at 6:10 pm. The time taken was 5 hours 15 minutes. 14.87 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.78 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 477 hours 35 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 688 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Moored by the Anchor Hotel, which proved to be a popula pub with the youngsters. A cold but sunny day slightly warmer than yesterday.

Thursday 6th October 1994

From Tempsford Bridge to Duck Mill (or Town) Lock arriving at 1:10 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 10 minutes. 10 miles and 5 locks, averaging 3.6 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 481 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 693 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Moored for lunch just before the lock.

From Duck Mill (or Town) Lock to Bedford Bridge arriving at 3:15 pm. The time taken was 45 minutes. 0.25 miles and 1 locks, averaging 1.67 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 482 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 694 locks, averaging 1.65 lock/miles per hour.

Friday 7th October 1994

From Bedford Bridge to Old Mills Lock Site arriving at 5:45 pm. The time taken was 4 hours 40 minutes. 11 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.21 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 487 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 698 locks, averaging 1.64 lock/miles per hour.

After Mum and Dad went home we went shoppig in Bedford then had lunch. After lunch we went up river until we went aground just before Kempston Mill bridge. We had great difficulty turning and ran aground going back to Bedford. Moored at the 48 hour moorings at the old lock site. A fine sunny day quite warm for the time of year.

Saturday 8th October 1994

From Old Mills Lock Site to St Neots arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 15 minutes. 8.5 miles and 3 locks, averaging 3.54 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 490 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 701 locks, averaging 1.63 lock/miles per hour.

Found we could not get into Great Barford from the old lock moorings as the footbridge was being repaired. We set off downstream hoping to stop at Great Barford but all the mooring spaces were occupied. Stopped for water at River Mill (1) then went on to St Neots for lunch, etc. Had a good, cheap, homemade steak and kidney pie for lunch at a pup in the High Street. Stopped on board all afternoon and moored here for the night.

Sunday 9th October 1994

From St Neots to Huntingdon arriving at 2:15 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 45 minutes. 10.12 miles and 4 locks, averaging 3.77 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 494 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 705 locks, averaging 1.63 lock/miles per hour.

Left at 10.30 as the thick morning mist was beginig to clear. Moored by the old bridge for a late lunch.

From Huntingdon to St Ives Bridge arriving at 5:40 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 5.62 miles and 2 locks, averaging 3.39 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 496 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 707 locks, averaging 1.63 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped at Hartford Marina for water (no charge) for 20 minutes (not included in cruising time). Moored for the night at Waites Public Quay. A sunny day after a misty start. Took pictures at Godmanchester lock.

Monday 10th October 1994

From St Ives Bridge to Holywell arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 1 hour 45 minutes. 2.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 2.14 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 498 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 708 locks, averaging 1.62 lock/miles per hour.

Went shoping in St Ives then I took some pictures. Stopped at the Pike & Eel Inn at Overcote Ferry, about a mile and a half past Holywell. We had lunch on the boat and I got two pints (one bitter, one lager) from the pub.

Stopped for water at Westview Marinas Ltd, Earith. Moored just over a mile before the bridge and before Twenty Pence Marina. A fine sunny day again.

Tuesday 11th October 1994

From Stretham Old Bridge to Upware Junction arriving at 1:00 pm. The time taken was 3 hours 10 minutes. 6 miles and 0 locks, averaging 1.89 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 504 hours 30 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 709 locks, averaging 1.6 lock/miles per hour.

A very misty (foggy) morning. Tried to fill up with water at Upware Marina but they said they had a problem with their water main and sent us on a wild goose chase round to the lock - no water that we could see. Moored for lunch at the Washes, about a mile on from the junction.

From Upware Junction to Chesterton Ferry arriving at 4:45 pm. The time taken was 2 hours 15 minutes. 8.75 miles and 1 locks, averaging 4.33 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 506 hours 45 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 710 locks, averaging 1.6 lock/miles per hour.

Stopped for water at the Two Tees Boatyard but Champers went for a walk and did not come back until 19.20 so we ended up staying the night. A cloudy but bright afternoon after the mornings fog.

Wednesday 12th October 1994

Wednesday 12th October 1994

From Jesus Green Lock to Clayhythe Bridge arriving at 5:00 pm. The time taken was 1 hour 50 minutes. 5.87 miles and 1 locks, averaging 3.75 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 509 hours 10 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 711 locks, averaging 1.59 lock/miles per hour.

Came down river in the sun after the mist and cloud earlier in the day. As usual there were many rowers on the top reaches.

Thursday 13th October 1994

Stopped at the NRA "Windmill" moorings by the bridge. A cloudy start to the day turning into a sunny, and quite warm, afternoon. Saw 9 knigfishers today.

Friday 14th October 1994

From Ten Mile Bank Bridge to Ely, A142 Road bridge arriving at 12:45 am. The time taken was 3 hours 35 minutes. 13 miles and 0 locks, averaging 3.63 lock/miles per hour. Totals for this voyage are 518 hours 25 minutes. total cruising time, 100 miles and 711 locks, averaging 1.56 lock/miles per hour.

Came back up to Ely for water and deisel but were tod we could not get a pumpout until all the hire boats had gone - probably about four o'clock. We finally got our pump out at 17.30 and then went on to Tesco's for our shopping. We then went into the centre and had a good dinner at the Stage Coach Restaurant. A hazy start to the day but sunny later.

After lunch we went through Bottisham Lock and went a little way upstream before turning and comming back through the lock and back to Ely. the day was misty and dull but we did see a knigfisher and evveryone seemed to enjoy themselves.

Monday 17th October 1994

Went through Denver Lock with Brian (the boat with tigers on the side) but we could not both fit into Salter's Lode Lock together - although no one was sure as to why. Stopped at Upwell for shopping.

Had lunch on the move as we could nott find a suitable mooring. Moored fort he night just above the bridge again. A cloudly day with sunnyy intervals, quite cold.

Tuesday 18th October 1994

A trip slowed by a conbination of blanket weed and shallow water. Walked in to Whittlesey for lunch at te George, a friendly pub. On our return at 13.45 we found the lock keeper waiiting for us.
